What a dumpy-looking little car. Was this pre-Leyland? They sure churned out some stinkers. Ah well, they couldn't all be the Mini.

#1, Funny you say that, Alec Issigonis (who designed the Mini) also designed the 1100. ANd no, it wasn't pre-Leyland, it was pure BL, so it had suspect mechanical components and bad rust problems. On paper, it sold great (1.1 million units) on the ledger however, it was a failure, as in an attempt to undercut the pricing of comparable cars from the bigger brands, they ended up losing money on each one sold..... maybe they thought they could make it up in volume?
