For being supposedly a "free" country, we do have the most assinine restrictive automobile market... most other countries in the world, for a fee, you can import any car from a first-world country as long as it's met it's country's safety requirements... and Canada, any car 15 years or older, no red tape at all...

But America, cars have to be modified to conform to every god damn little piddly requirement, and you can't import older vehicles that weren't originally sold in America no matter what... well, if you want to drive them on the road legally anyway.

Is that in refrence to the ugly bumpers and whatnot?

I saw a Jaguar D-type the other day and I've also seen a Trabant (tho advertising a junkyard)

#2, I kinda got sidetracked, yes, but part of that post was in reference to the ugly front facia modifications, bumpers, headlights, etc, that foreign cars have to (or have had to in the past) done to meet American requirements.

#2, e: I've also seen some guy driving a 2CV in my town (much newer than the few that were sold here way back when) and some Skylines. I've also saw a 2 door RHD Pajero in NYC (90s model which wasn't sold here)

#2, I've seen a number of Canada market-only old cars registered in the States, and I once saw a Mexican Opel on a used car lot in So Cal.

#4, If you keep seeing all this stuff, why not try to get pics of it? I'm sure we'd all like to see. :)

Apparently, cars 25 years and older are exempt from DOT regulations. More:

#9, Skylines (at least the R34) are illegal in California.
Cars built in or before 1975 are exempt from smog regulations in CA.

I've seen the same Nissan S-Cargo in SF several times, it belongs to a catering company.

People find ways to get "grey-market" cars in America... but if the government wanted to, they could easily nix those cars very quickly. They aren't completely legal to register and drive in America.

#13, there's a blue one and a teal ute near me. There's also what I believe to be a Holden Monaro near me, or so a co worker says.

ugly Federalized version or not I'd love to find a KP61 for what it's worth, i.e. not $6000.

#1, You still get cars that we don't get here. Ex : The new GTO, some SUVs, etc.. And we don't get them because they don't meet our safety requirements.

Cars under 25 years old that are not DOT certified or similar to cars originally sold here require retrofitting, which can get expensive to be roadworthy.
