These things were so rust prone, I'm amazed one even still exists on the west coast.
There are two around here....one literally has holes in the side sheetmetal big enough to stick your arm in. The other doesn't look so bad, but still has its share of cancer. |

#1, I've seen rusty ones here, including one with almost no rear fenders. O_o |

#1, I was amazed too, until I saw the CA plates. These things were water traps, basically everywhere, but those rear quarters were the worst. I think I've regaled you all with the story of my Dad's old Scout II that was such a rustbucket (and it was white, making it look even worse) that the last 2 years it was on the road, it looked like the ironclad USS Monitor what with all the pop-riveted panels all over to just make up for the fact that most of the rear quarterpanel structure was GONE, when the inside fender wells went, he gave it to the farmer next door to just run up the mountain for firewood. Last I saw it, it was abandoned on a jeep trail behind his place, and had rusted out so badly that the front bumper was still at factory ride height, but the rear bumper and MIDDLE of the rear fenders were now touching the ground.
Absolute Garbage, I think even the Chevy Vega rusted slower |
