Most waterspouts are really weak -- like an F0 on land -- so you'd have a lot more to worry about from a regular thunderstorm than from one of those.

Weak compared to tornadoes, but sailing a boat into a waterspout is NOT something you would want to do....they still make enough power to rip rigging loose or even capsize a decent-sized tug, let alone a little sailboat.
