I'm starting my vintage videogame collection. I already had a SNES (need to buy more games and accessories) and my Xbox (with a shitload of games and accessories.. I wanted to sell it but it's not worth it.. I'd regret it). I still regret selling my PS1, but I'll buy another one someday.. Yesterday I bought a Magnavox/Philips Odyssey2 console with a bunch of games, all in the original boxes, with manuals, we played it all evening, everything works perfect. A friend of mine also gave me his Sega Genesis with 3 different controllers, about 10 games and the Sega CD extension with 2 games. Tomorrow, I'm buying 50 Genesis games (40$) and sunday, 13 Mattel Intellivision games + console (the owner isn't sure the console is working) for 15$. I'll make some money by selling some Odyssey2 and Genesis games I'll have in extra. Can't wait to find more stuff in yard sales and flea markets this summer. I also sent an email to family members and friends to ask for donations..

There's tons of obscure stuff I can't wait to find.. there's a Philips CD-i and a Nec TurboGrafx-16 for sale a few hours away from my home, but the owners are asking waaayyy too much for them. I also spotted a Game Boy Color (with 5-6 games) for 15$. GameCubes, Sega Saturns and Sega Dreamcasts are also too expensive now.

I've never really "collected" vintage game consoles; I just simply grew up with them. When I was born, my father already had a Magnavox Odyssey, Bentley CompuVision, Radio Shack Color Computer, and Atari 2600jr... Played those systems a LOT.

We got an NES in 1988, GameBoy in 1990, Genesis (2nd model) in 1993, SNES in 1994, N64 in 1996, PlayStation in 1997, GameBoy Color in 1998, GameBoy Advance and Dreamcast in 2001, Xbox and PS2 in 2002, GameBoy Advance SP in 2003, and Nintendo DS in 2005... haven't gotten a new gaming system since then, though... I've pretty much stayed out of the current crop of consoles.

Everything up to the NES in 1988 is still in my father's basement in PA, most still either hooked up to a TV, or could easily be hooked up on a whim.... the only ones that are in my personal possession are the Xbox, PS2, and DS... I actually rarely play them anymore... though, I've gotten into PC emulators and have been reliving some of my nostalgic classics.

#3, Cool, you're lucky you got all these consoles.. my parents never bought anything except computers. I did buy a Game Boy from one of my sister's ex boyfriends. 3-4 years ago, a friend of mine gave me his PS1 and the year after, I bought a Xbox. Last summer, I bought my PS3 and I love it... Now i just want to collect everything I always wanted when I was a kid.

Any chance your father wants to get rid of some of his stuff ? :p

Magnavox Odyssey˛ and K.C. Munchkin.

Like all other retro games, the cover art was amazing. The game itself was eh.

#4, My father, the packrat? Get rid of anything? Surely you jest.

My father is one of those people that didn't exactly have a perfect childhood, so when he grew up and became successful, he devotes part of his life to having a second childhood. He still plays videogames ever so often, collects diecasts of cars from the '30s and '50s (of the 1/18 scale variety most often), and he also tinkers with his BIG toy cars :)

I'm so old that my first video game was Pong. I think we had an early Atari machine. I know we had Coleco. Also had a Trash80, not too much of a gaming machine though. Then a C64. Still have the C64. Lol. Then a PC with a CD-ROM drive in 1995, then a friend gave me his Playstation I. Now we have a Playstation II, still a very outdated machine. Lol

I got an NES for Christmas in 1991, a Game Boy the following year, an SNES the year after that, and an N64 in 1996. Got tired of Nintendo's game lineup and bought a Playstation in the spring of 1998, then a PS2 in November 2001. For the current gen, I switched to Microsoft, buying an Xbox 360 in May of 2007.

The only other consoles I've played (that I recall) are an Atari 2600 at a neighbor's house when I was about 7 years old (I remember playing Haunted House and Barnstorming on it), and a coworker brought a Wii to work last year and several of us played Smash Bros. on it.

#5, Yeah I got a bunch of Odyssey2 games, but not that one. I'll post pics eventually.

So far, I've got this :
-Sega Master System + zapper + 2 controllers + all wires, 14 games (bought today)
-Sega Genesis gen.1 (friend donation), gen.2 (bought it today), shitload of hardware (wires, controllers) and games.
-Sega CD (friend donation), but only 2 games
-Nintendo NES (looks brand new) + zapper + 1 controller + about 10 games (bought it yesterday)
-2 Super Nintendo (1 friend donation, other 1 bought last summer), 4 controllers, about 5 games
-Atari 2600 (not a woody, but I'll find one) with tons of controllers/hardware and about 15 games
-Magnavox Odyssey2 + all hardware + about 20 games, everything with original boxes and manuals (bought friday)
-Waiting for another Atari 2600 (no sure which model) and a 7800 with hardware and games, seller is shipping this week.
-2 portable vintage mini games

You say your Atari 2600 isn't a woody... would that make it a 2600jr like the one my father has? Believe me, you'd be better off with a 2600jr than a woody 2600... much more reliable.

#10, Yeah I heard of reliability problems with the woody, but I still want it, for the collectible factor. :p

My Atari 2600 controlers have been busted for years, but the games still work!

#12, Someone once told me that, amazingly enough, Sega Genesis controllers are almost plug-and-play for a 2600 system... never tried it myself, though, so it may not be true.

#13, Yup, they are. I've learned that in one of AVGN's videos.

So far, all the consoles work great. My gf was really happy to be able to play Mario World on snes again. She kicks ass.

#15, Are you saying that she kicks ass at Mario World, or she kicks ass because she likes playing videogames?

#16, She kicks ass at Mario World. She doesn't want to play other games, except maybe Sonic 2. Typical girl :P

Lately, I bought a Sega Game Gear (the guy had 2 of them, with the carrying case and the wire to connect them together, but sold one with the case and the wire before I got there) with 4 games, a Nec Turbo Grafx-16 with 2 games but 1 controller, a Sega Dreamcast with one controller and 10 games and also 16 additional NES games and 15 other SNES games. Also, I finally received my Atari 7800 and the other 2600 (it's a Jr. I think, it's quite small) with a bunch of 2600 games. I got my hands on a pair of T.A.C. joysticks, a Sega Master System zapper and Zelda on NES. I'm alreayd running out of space, we need a home. :p

#18, You need a Sega Nomad. Who cares if it's bulky and has a 30 minute battery life... you need one.

#19, I know, I asked my new contact to find one. I'm currently bidding on a Panasonic 3DO console.
