This was a strange bodystyle....but I'd sport it.

This bodystyle was a massive failure... it failed when Pontiac attempted it again with the Aztek.

...but now, for some reason, Honda, Acura and BMW (x2), are attempting it yet again...

I never saw the appeal of a caved-in roof styling. Fastback can only works with 2 (3) doors.

#3, Agreed... for me, the 5-door hatch, station wagon, and 3-door fastback all "work", aesthetically... when a company tries stradling bodystyles, and makes a 5-door fastback... it just... doesn't work... it ESPECIALLY doesn't work when the company tries jacking up the suspension to make it into an SUV... yuck.

#2, Add the Rover SD1 to that list of failures, too. But that was more of a quality problem... I actually kind of like the way the SD1 looks.

#5, Hmmm... the SD1 was a rare example, where, aesthetically, it worked..but that was mainly because it had a sleek, low, front-end, not a tall, upright, or bulbous front-end.

#2, Cit CX? BX? XM?

The name of the bodystyle is 'Kammback' - although marketers recoil at the name nowadays (likely don't even know what it is) - they've repackaged it as a '4 door coupe'.

#7, Ok, fine, let me just expand on #6 and say that when a vehicle has a sleek front-end, it can pull-off a 5-door fastback body... when the front end is just blocky, ugly, bulbous, or upright, it CANNOT pull off that look.

What about the Mexican-market VAM Lerma? :P

Anyway, I don't see many of these anymore. I saw one today though, for some odd reason it wasn't rusted away.

#10, But it was still a Corsica. :P

But, seriously, that was more of a hatchback than a "fastback"... God, I'm splitting hairs here.

Off topic, but I've always wondered why some cars with fastback rooflines have conventional trunks (*cough Mustang*).

#12, Because we have to keep American sensibilities in mind. And, sadly, America is full of stupid, stupid people, who thumb their noses at even the slightest whiff of "hatchback"... (or "minivan", for that matter, causing the general public to buy overpriced, cramped, less-practical SUVs)

#13, I wonder if I'm in a small group, then? I seem to like such oddities as the VW Sharan, Kia Rondo, and small, but not tiny people movers.

#13, Agree. Some of those SUVs are REALLY tight inside. When I had a minivan, it was immensely fun and roomy.

#15, I'm not terribly fond of my sister's GLK... for being such a thirsty, lumbering compact SUV, it's god-damned cramped inside.

#16, and its not very reliable either, I imagine?

Sister just traded HER 2010 GLK350 4Matic for a new 2015 Honda Civic EX coupe in Rallye Red.
