Saw a purple one the other day, can someone tell me again exactly what they were trying to accomplish?

Slower and slushier than its looks deserve...

...actually faster then its reputation belies. This thing could accelerate as fast as an '02 Trans Am.

Handling, though, is another matter...

The whole "Factory hot rod/retro car" market is one that just about every manufacturer tried in the mid to late 90's, and kinda flopped in because, well, does that market even EXIST?

The Chevy HHR, the Prowler, the "new" T-bird.....

Aside from collectors who thought they were buying an investment to a few 50-somethings with cash to burn, I've never seen anyone show a genuine interest in any of them

#4, I've also noticed that despite the perceived collectibility, those new T-Birds aren't even that expensive. Ditto to PT Cruisers--they're probably as cheap as Neons were back in the day.

#4, I think you mean the SSR, it was the weird truck thing. The HHR is just a wannabe PT cruiser(and just as horrible).

#6, Yeah, I did, but, that just goes to show you how out of date and desperate they are...

Exec1 - HEY GUYZ, lets make our own version of this really neat new car I saw the other day!!! See!? I was sneaky and got a pic with my phone!
Exec2 - Uh, that's a PT Cruiser, they've been around for like 10 years, they sell, but most people think they're kinda silly looking. I don't see how imitating something that's gone stale at this point would really help us.
Exec1 - BUT IT HAD A KOOL LETTER NAME! A PT!! KIDS LOVE THAT STUFF!! I SAY WE CALL IT THE HHR! CAME UP WITH THAT ALL BY MYSELF!!!
Exec2 - Are you off your meds again, Jenkins? That's the sillies think I've ever...
CEO -ENKINS! You are a FREAKIN' GENIUS! I'll have the design boys start work on a new grille with our logo in it, and then we can start shippin' em out left and right! We can't lose!
Exec1 - Thank you Sir!
Exec2 - *straightens necktie and dives out window*

#7, I just thought it was important to note that GM had two separate, but equally awful "retro" cars.

Coworker of mine drives an HHR....and swears by it. I think it looks pretty good, but then again, I still like the PT Cruiser, too.

Seriously though, did anyone ask for the SSR? What a waste of space.

#8, I'm tempted to ban you for admitting to knowing who designed them

#12, lol It was all over AutoWeek, Motor Trend and many other publications. He also put forth the idea for a faster CTS and STS during his tenure at GM.

That's a blatant lie, everyone knows Autoweek is just a large Weathertech advertisement.

#10, I never understood the PT hatedom to start with, they have "retro" styling but aren't marketed as pretentious retro cars and neither is the HHR, I just question the timing of waiting so long to trot it out. The SSR on the other hand, uh, yeah, what WERE they thinking, the Prowler had already flopped as a retro hot rod, so why try a retro hot rod pickup thingy?

if there's one "retro car" that I actually liked, well, okay, there's two.. The Nomad concept, and the Bel Air concept. I liked those when they came out, and I still like them today. *puts on flame suit*
