Description: My dad's '97 Chrysler LHS is still holding up well... ...sorta... http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/97lhs02.jpg It's pretty much gone from his primary car to his backup-car/beater... it still runs beautifully, rides sooooo comfortably, and, paint problems aside, I think it's still a sharp-looking car. He's considering getting a clearcoat respray, with an even greener-shade of British Racing Green...

During the cash-for-clunkers program a few years ago, my dad WAS going to trade it in on a new VW Eos, but the program removed the '97 LHS from the eligibility pool at the last minute... (and my dad got the used green '02 Cabrio [88463] instead) The KBB value on it is unbelievably low, for what a nice car it still is. Rode in a friend's fairly-new Avalon earlier this year, and was shocked how harsh it felt compared to my dad's LHS. With the low value one could get for it, my dad sees no reason to ditch it until the day when it might become financially-infeasible to repair. It's come in handy as a backup car and loaner in various situations...

#1, I am shocked to see how little are Alfa Romeos worth by the time they reach the 10 year old mark. The days of Alfas falling apart are gone, yet for the price of my old BMW after some searching I could buy a fully loaded (Momo leather, wooden steering wheel, Selespeed semi-auto) 2000-ish Alfa Romeo 156, even a V6.

Looks just like the one that ran under a Swift tractor trailer in front of my old house in '05 and killed one of the occupants. I still have the driver's side power mirror control, I found it in the road the next day.

#8, My dad's more focused on moving into his new house... the big garage he was having built next to it has finally been completed... http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/newgarage.jpg ...so now all his cars are going to get shipped up there. (His house near Philly, which he has had since 1987, is finally going on the market next year... this house is closer to the New Jersey border, and the whole NYC area itself... his long-time girlfriend's family lives near there.) Yeah, the garage is enormous, but that's for a reason... since resale is a concern, down the road, he made sure it'd be tall enough for even the largest RVs (it's a very wealthy suburb area)... don't mind the Scuby wagon, that's his girlfriend's son's car... her son and his family have been living in the house to keep it occupied until everything gets moved in from Philly.

Crazy to think, in just over four years, this can wear vintage/antique auto plates... I think he actually will get that type of registration/plate, since this merely serves as a backup car/doesn't get used much. I still remember going with my dad to the dealership to test drive this car and later buy it o_0

Just got my dad the Brookfield diecast of his LHS, yeah, it's off by two years, but it still looks identical, even down to the colors and sunroof... He joked that, when he gets the PA Historic plates for it in four years, he'll display it at car shows, with the hood open and the Brookfield diecast resting on the plastic engine cover.

#15, I hope he’s careful with it. The glass can haze pretty bad on those when subjected to heat.
