Lincoln died with the Town Car. Everything since has just been front-wheel drive blandmobiles, bloated crossovers, and the holy shit, is it still 2007 Navigator.

#2, To be honest - the Town Car hasn't been anything remarkable since the early 90's. I don't think Lincoln's lethargic state right now is attributable to the new MK's series of cars - rather their underwhelming Panther cars that should have been culled 20 years ago.
The first gen Navigator might have been 'the shit' - but it's was a flash in the pan. The aforementioned LS should have been to Lincoln what the CTS is to Cadillac - but there is nothing in Lincoln's range that compels me.

#5, I think that is the crux of the problem; The 'Lincoln faithful' seem to resent anything newer than their own Lincoln.
Nowadays - you can't sell a luxury car that's a 'salute to the past' like the Town Car was. Technology as content sells - not a huge car with a cushiony ride. This attitude of the luxury market alienates some buyers (be they Luddites or the man who yelled at your sister) - but this alienation just further drives the 'Lincoln faithful' further away from the mainstream. They may be happy with their simple - smooth riding - BOF boats - but FoMoCo isn't happy with the sales.
The Town Car was habitually lacking on the technology front - to the delight of the faithful and to the detriment of Ford. Calling a newer Town car 'not a true Town Car' is bullshit when it was just as outdated in 1994 as it was in 2004. What difference would it make apart from the physical appearance?
They don't want a luxury car - they just want a big car because in their minds a big car IS luxury

#7, You can go on about "technology" and "sales" all day....I'm just maintaining that from a car enthusiast's standpoint, the Town Car was the last interesting thing Lincoln built, as it was the final body-on-frame American luxury car.

#9, But that's the problem with the Town Car. Is its only claim to fame is that is was the last American BOF luxury car? Did Lincoln not do anything important or memorable in the last 30 years that made others take notice? Have they led or been competitive in a luxury segment during that time?
No car company should be hold their fleet and livery history as more memorable or noteworthy than their passenger car history.

#10, Again, I don't care about sales or business strategies. I'm not saying Lincoln should have kept building the Town Car, I'm just saying it's the last thing they did build that I cared about.

I like the Audi Q5, and I like these. I would feel more comfortable buying a used one of these rather than a Q5. Coincidentally, with a car approaching 170k miles and nickel-and-diming me, I was a bit curious and searched for a used MKC near me. $13k with under 100k? Hmmm...
