Bought a new car today. 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, 2.0 turbo six speed. |

#1, Prior to about three days ago, I wouldn't have imagined getting it. But my sister wants to buy my Ranger, and I'm pretty much done with the Miata and getting ready to sell it, too. And I'm finally getting into a position where I can finally get serious about the Granada.
This one was $9,700, financed through a local Toyota dealer. When they found out how good my credit is, it pretty much turned into an ass-kissing fest. I even managed to get a ToyotaCare warranty that covers repairs for the next 24,000 miles or two years, and routine maintenance for the next 55,000 miles or four years.
It has 105,000 miles on it, hence the good price, and it looks pretty much new inside and out. I wanted something practical, sporty, and with a stick.

#3, Quick and low, with high sills....a little weird after driving the Ranger for a while. Steering doesn't have any feedback, which is a little disappointing, but the car sticks well in corners. The trunk seems roomy, and rearward visibility isn't as bad as some other similar cars.
Lots of reviewers have complained about the manual transmissions in these, but I think it feels pretty terrific...nearly as good as the one in the Miata, in fact. Nice and notchy, and I've only missed a gear once so far.
Biggest downside I'm sensing so far: The ergonomics are complicated. The radio, in particular, is just a mass of esoteric buttons.

You able to break the rear end out on corners, or are you trying to baby it? Have any plans to modify it?

I'm trying to go easy on it. It's going to be my primary transportation for the next 3-4 years, and I want to take full advantage of the warranty. I can't really think of anything I'd like to modify on it, and I'd rather put any spare money into the Granada, anyway.

#7, I was looking primarily at Kia Forte Koups (which for some reason really appeal to me) and Scion tCs. Then I decided to see if there was a good Genesis Coupe around for under $12k or so.
The same dealer had a 2006 350Z with 140k miles on it for $5,000, which I also wanted to look at. The dealer hummed and hawed before finally taking me all the way in the back to show me a very dirty silver one with Tenzo wheels, nearly bald tires, purple window tint, and a cracked and crooked front bumper cover. "The air doesn't work" was the first thing the dealer said when I opened the door and was immediately hit with the unmistakable stench of pot. Later when I was filling out the paperwork for this one, he told me the car was owned by a 22 year old guy who traded it on a new Genesis coupe with a V6, and that his parents paid for all of it. Go figure.

#9, Nice :) I think you made a good choice. I like the Forte Koups too, and ditto the tC. Shame about the 350Z, but I suppose that's what to expect from an enthusiast car that's put away wet.

Thanks to a possum that chose the wrong time to cross the road, there's now a rather unsightly crack at the bottom of the front bumper. >_<

#18, I chose the shop...a small local shop run by an older guy with OCD. He did the repair work on my mother's '07 Focus after she got rear-ended a few years ago, and not only did a great job on the repair, but actually sanded down and resprayed one of the undamaged doors at no additional charge because it had signs of poorly-repaired previous accident damage that was "bugging" him.
Similarly, he also took the time to tighten the clutch and steering rack on the Hyundai....hence why it feels better. He also restores cars, so there's pretty much nothing he can't do. I'm a big fan.
#19, Nah, the fenders are steel. Only the bumpers, side skirts, and mirrors are plastic.
