That Tomy Datsun Type 11 looks pretty cool, actually.

Am I weird that I have almost zero interest in collecting vintage Hot Wheels? That seems to be the "go to" for collecting 1/64s, but not for me... vintage Matchbox/Lenseys don't really appeal to me either... and I've always viewed [most] Johnny Lightnings as a joke... JL has made some fantastic diecasts, which I have bought... but the majority feel like they're solely produced with the intention of being "prized" collectibles... it's like all the new "First Issue" comic books that came out in the '90s at the height of the comic book boom... fucking ridiculous.

...I walk through flea markets and antique malls, and so many people have RACKS of NIP Hot Wheels from 10-30 years ago... and I feel myself dozing off just looking at them.

#8, I've developed something of an interest in the vintage "Spectraflame" Redline Hot Wheels from 1968-1971. Not in buying them, of course, but they're interesting to look at and I follow a couple of YouTube channels that restore them.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't collect Spectraflame/Redline Hot Wheels either. I just collect whatever the hell I want and that's a widely varied list. I like anything that represents a reasonably detailed, minimally decorated, believable street vehicle, particularly a North American variant or whatever looks closest. I also collect Russian cars. Someday I'll finally catalog everything. Someday.

#8, I've gotten to the point where, if I'm perusing a flea market or antique mall, and see a Tomica, ANY Tomica, in decent shape, I'll pretty much buy it right then and there... same with most older Majorettes... those two brands are so f-ing rare.

#11, When I was going to the flea market on a regular basis I would buy virtually any clean vintage or interesting 1:64 diecast, especially if I saw a small child coming who was acting particularly violent or careless. I remember buying 20+ good cars from one seller, some simply to protect them from a little kid whose mother was permitting him to step on the cars that were laid out on the ground.
Over the course of two years I brought home probably a couple hundred cars I rarely paid more than $0.50-$1 for, and I made friends with one of the sellers who would occasionally give me freebies or special prices. Ended up reselling some of the cars but I still have most of them.

So… since this thread I have gone absolutely apeshit on collecting Tomicas… thanks to discovering a chain of "hole in the wall" hobby shops in Japan that ship internationally. I've even gotten to the point where I check their "just in" inventory on a daily basis.

Some damned good stuff pops up, and I'm obviously not the only person that does that as some very prized items get snapped up FAST. I had a vintage '70s Civic, still with its original box, IN MY CART the moment I saw it "in-stock", and the moment I clicked to check-out, I got an error that it was already out of stock. Their prices are shockingly low compared to what one would find in eBay.

Only problem is they only ship DHL express due to COVID (SAL/airmail has been suspended for most Japanese retailers) so I have to make sure I've got a large order ready before comitting to buy, to justify s/h. I've acquired quite a collection of very nice vintage Black Box/Blue Box Tomicas, as well as some older collector's sets.
