Description:
God help me, I'm actually contemplating a crossover...
...deeply lamenting that the Mazda2 is no longer sold in non-Puerto-Rico America, and the rebadged Mazda2 sold by Toyota is ugly as sin, this idea has popped in my head, and isn't leaving...
A Mazda CX-3; I wouldn't get a new one, though... couldn't justify paying a $5k premium for a lifted hatchback wearing "action" clothes... |

Another reason I'd buy used... the 2019 made a few changes; most notably, replacing the physical/mechanical parking brake lever with an e-brake, and removal of the CD player. It may be anachronistic, but I like grabbing a random CD from my [now massive] anime CD collection in the morning and popping it in for the commute.
...yes, I know I could probably rip the CDs as mp3s, but I've done that a few times, and have never been satisfied with the results... they just sound different, even at 320kbps.
And I'd want to get a "Sport", the lowest trim level (pictured)... yes, I'd lose out on a sunroof and better stereo system, but I'd get cloth seats (better for Florida) and smaller wheels, meaning cheaper-to-replace tires and better ride.
Keeping an eye out if a Mazda Certified one pops up in the area... the Fiat was a nice experiment, but I'm growing weary of its rattles and lack of refinement and power. I don't use the convertible top as much as I thought I would. Too fucking hot. |

Most reviews of it seem to be OK, but I would think making it taller would eliminate most of what made the Mazda2 entertaining to start with.
Maybe I've just become biased towards a certain Korean brand in recent years, but the Veloster is in the same price range, and having driven a 2019 base model about a year ago, they're an amusing little hatch. I don't think they offer a CD player, though....I know my Elantra doesn't have one. |

#3, I'm really impressed by the newer ones. Multi-colored stitching and trim, plenty of soft-touch surfaces. Compared to my 2011 Genesis, the interiors produced in just the last couple of years have improved by leaps and bounds. They're worth a look, anyway.

Get a Kona. The 1.6T is a riot, and will surprise quite a few cars from stoplight to stoplight. I would skip the base 2.0. 0-60 in a hair under 10 seconds, and pretty much 28 MPG.
The turbo drops that 0-60 time to the low-mid 6s, and you have not much of an MPG penalty. Also, if you care for OMG OMG BOOST, Veloster parts will fit. |

#5, The 1.6T is what's in my Elantra....I can confirm that it's a peppy engine, especially at higher RPMs. |

#7, Long story short, the Fiat just needed MASSIVE repairs, covered under warranty... out of warranty, it would've cost over $8000.
I am totally soured on that car... so I'm back to maybe looking at a CX-3... maybe. But, at almost 70" wide, it'd be a stretch to fit it in the garage next to the bike... even the Mazda2 got a bit too close for comfort at some points, and that's 66½" wide. (Fiat is 64" for the record)
...I'm even, maybe, considering a Nissan Kicks... yes, yes, horribly underpowered engine with CVT, but I have to admit it's a handsome little truck. |

#8, I really like the Kicks too. It looks good, its small enough, and it gets great real-world economy. :) |

#9, I would like to drop in right now and point out that we've gone from cars that sound like rare genetic/nutritional disorders in the mid 00's (Versa, Yaris, Routan) to cars that sound like characters from a 90's fighting game rip-off of Mortal Kombat (Kicks, Kona, Bolt) |

#13, okay, but miles aren't everything.I'd rather have a nicer car with more miles for same money as a newer decontented car. |

#16, Those Yaris are strange little fuckers. I don't many of them, and they have a surprised look to them. I also don't care for Mazda's "stapled to the dash" look of the center screen. Does your car have that problem/feature? I know the Kona's screen is similar but the Mazda one just looks odd. |
