These bastards are profaning hallowed ground. No NASCAR track should be disgraced by the presence of rice, especially not the one where Kevin Harvick got his first Winston Cup win. |

it's a f&f semi copy. I know the guy that owns the eclipse in the movie, i think it's ugly but it is also 400 hp so i don't mind too much. |

400hp is about as much power as a fwd eclipse of that generation can put to the wheels in a practical street application. I have 419 at the front wheels, and I wouldn't up it on that car because it becomes undrivable on a regular basis. 4wd eclipses are a different story, but the one from the f&f wasn't 4wd so he had as much as he needed. It's not like the car was a full out alchohol/slicks drag car, it's a daily driven car so more power is not practical or necessary. when building a car, you have to consider how often you're going to drive it. while everyone would like a 1000hp supra, a car like that would be impossible to drive on the streets. Saad N. Saad's 901 rwhp supra burns 1 gallon of 101 race gas per minute with the throttle half way open. Basically, 500, you're an idiot. nothing wrong with 400 out of a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder. out of a 8 liter v10 it's not doing too well, but that's another issue. |

400 hp out of a V8 is standed issue. the thing is. most ricers cant reach 400 hp with their 4 cylinders to match V8s.
with a 400hp pump fuel V8, it still has a long way to reach it's maxium out put. |

An Eclipse properly built may be fast, but it's not going to make 400 hp. Engine is too small to do that and remain driveable on the street. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the car. I'm just not beleiving the numbers. |

Nice find CRXtrackguy.
That Spyder has since been converted to AWD. The first AWD Spyder ever. It also has a LOT more power now.
And you absolutely don't need a V8 to be fast 500plus. There are plenty of completely streetable 2.0L Eclipses Lasers and Talons out there running 10s and 11s. Only these cars can hook up with the road. You can't beat AWD.
DSMs have gone into the 9s on STREET tires. They can DRIVE the car to the track, blast a 9 second ET, and then DRIVE home. Show me an American V8 that can legally drive to the track, run 9s on street tires, and then drive home. Oh, he also can't break anything in the car. This 9 second DSM I am talking about didn't break a single part in the 2001 race season. It was featured in the march 2002 issue of Turbo magazine. Go pick it up and get educated. |
