I had my old Dodge D200 up to 92, but slowed down for traffic, and that was BEFORE I rebuilt the engine. I remember when my dad bought his IROC, I asked him how fast it would go, he said "lets find out" I remember the speedo reading 122 mph.

I test drove a Camaro SS one time, scared the crap out of the guy from the dealership. We got out on the freeway, I nailed it, and ran out of speedo in 5th gear. I looked over at him, (doin about 160, remember) calm as can be, and asked him, "What's the point in a 6th gear if you don't get toy use it?" He almost screamed to watch the road... Good times..

hell, they should know better than to ride with me if they aren't willing to take their lives in their hands. and I did some research, the redline on the tach from a '67 GT500 428 CJ was 8000 rpm.

You think a 100 mph speedometer is bad, how about the Carter-era 85 mph ones? They were mandated in EVERY car sold in America...ick...

speaking of speedos...my dad's car (2001 jetta glx) has a 160mph speedo, I believe the tach even goes to 9000rpm. The redline is 6300 or so, and its governed to 135mph...why oh why are the gauges so friken high?!?

A '96 mazda 626 (not even the v6) speedometer goes to 150. ridiculous. I only know cause my mate has one. I saw the speedo and burst out laughing.

oh, and one thing you have to realize about houston's freeways is that for a long time the speedlimits were 70mph. so people got used to doing 75-80. now they're 55mph. people do 75-80, just as before. and the freeways are really wide and straight, so you can go insanely fast if you're careful.

I did my govenor-verifying run of 135 on I-5 just south of the city limits. It was empty for 10 miles as I cruised along *grin*

I don't have a governor. the speedo runs out at 85, and you just keep going. I'll see about taking a picture of it if I get a chance tommorrow, it's kinda funny looking.

My Cavlier's speedo goes up to 120...but it shakes really badly at about 90, so I wouldn't trust it to go faster than 100...
