Arrgh! I saw a documentary about this a couple years ago but the name completely escapes me now. It was supposed to be a very advanced design but turned out to be a bust. It was a huge plane but was badly underpowered. I'm going to go chase the website that the image is linked to but won't post the name if I find it. If I don't, it'll drive me crazy all night... :)

Thanks, and I've loved airplanes ever since I was a little kid so I've studied them a lot. I did find the name of the plane and that's a fascinating website -- lots of pictures and stories of aircraft and airlines.

My favorite of all time is the Constellation. I don't think there's ever been a more beautiful airplane...

well since he got the history, and since i doubt anyone else will get it (unless they were watching the history channel at 6), its the Bristol Brabazon. the part of the history i was looking for was it was a huge blunder on the part of England. the gov. poured a huge amount of money into this for a design that was passed its time. even after it was clear no one wanted it, they still tried to save it by making a second one that used jet engines. this too failed scrapped

It's the German built G-AGPW, famous for being the plane wth the widest wingspan of its day. Uh, am I close?
