I don't know why they had to quit making them at all. If it ain't broke.....
And I still think that if they sold the old-style Beetles here for around $5000 they'd sell like you wouldn't believe. |

The reason they stopped is becaue for around $5000 in Mexico you could buy far more modern hatchbacks, and they are starting to have trouble passing emissions standards now that Mexico is enforcing them. I agree that if they sold em over here, they would sell alot, but its the same emissions problem. |

#4, Or just about anywhere in the South. For some reason, emissions just aren't enforced here. I guess it's the low population. |

#7, Surely cheaper than designing a whole new car to replace it.
That's like people who burn up the engines in their cars and say "It's not worth paying $1200 for a new motor", so they junk the car and then spend about $10,000 on another car. |

DiRF's got an idea there...forget about Honda Hybrids, the next new automotive advancement towards a cleaner-burning mode of transportation is a steam-powered moose carcass.
Hmmmmmm...you better call the patent office before someone steals that idea. |
