I don't know why they had to quit making them at all. If it ain't broke.....

And I still think that if they sold the old-style Beetles here for around $5000 they'd sell like you wouldn't believe.

The reason they stopped is becaue for around $5000 in Mexico you could buy far more modern hatchbacks, and they are starting to have trouble passing emissions standards now that Mexico is enforcing them. I agree that if they sold em over here, they would sell alot, but its the same emissions problem.

#4, Or just about anywhere in the South. For some reason, emissions just aren't enforced here. I guess it's the low population.

not worth the cost of re-engineering an old design I guess.

#6, The reason emissions aren't enforced...NO REQUIRED INSPECTIONS... Hell, you could be driving a steam powered moose carcass...as long as it has headlights, taillights, and a licence plate, you're good to go.

#7, Surely cheaper than designing a whole new car to replace it.

That's like people who burn up the engines in their cars and say "It's not worth paying $1200 for a new motor", so they junk the car and then spend about $10,000 on another car.

DiRF's got an idea there...forget about Honda Hybrids, the next new automotive advancement towards a cleaner-burning mode of transportation is a steam-powered moose carcass.

Hmmmmmm...you better call the patent office before someone steals that idea.

#11, I just hope I haven't given any photoshoppers any ideas....hmmm...then again, I don't think they'll do anything about it, I mean, SERIOUSLY, where would you find an image of a moose carcass?
