I agree with you're point Max. The cars and segment were meant to showcase the new direction of GM. All the parts Moss used in the cars are direct bolt-on's and are available over the counter from GM. They wanted to draw attention to their new support for low budget performance cars, aka Ricers.

Here's a link.

http://www.autointell.com/nao_companies/general_motors/pontiac/pontiac-solstice/pontiac-solstice-02.htm

DOHC 2.2L, supercharged, 240hp, and a 6 spd box. All for under $20k USD.

Well, I like the part about building their one-off tuners from OTC parts... but am I supposed to be excited about the fact that GM is now offering factory support for ricers?

Regarding the Solstice: Hmm, looks like good competition for the Razor. Better styling IMHO than the Razor, plus the drop-top factor... but the Razor will be cheaper and faster. Decisions, decisions... ahh, fuck it, I'll just get a Marauder.

Response to Max--The idea of factory-endorsing rice is particularly troublesome. I can only picture car prices going up to cover the warranties, since "official" aftermarket parts shouldn't void those...

And amen to the Marauder idea. If I could afford one when they came out...

I like the lines of the Solstice, especially the proto coupe. But I like the Hemi in the Razor... Too bad Lutz didn't mention a 380hp Solstice for the future...

well...the ecotec is rather beefy, no? it probably wouldnt be too hard to crank it up a bit higher...although, 380 would be a bit ambitious

I talked to a guy who's working on the Marauder program yesterday at Mid-America; he said they're going to run $34,000 when they come out soon. Which should mean that, two years from now when I get out of college and join the OHP, I'll be able to pick up a good used one for $20,000-25,000. I'll probably need to get a loan, but payments shouldn't be awful...

Hmm. $25k wouldn't be bad for a car of that size (and luxury) with some power!

Moose, think how much you'd have to spend to get a BMW, Lexus, Lincoln or Caddy with the same size, power and luxury as the Marauder.

As far as the 380hp Solstice coupe, I was thinking more along the lines of the C5 engine under the hood, especially since they're already planning on using the C5 gearbox. Why not make the engine bay large enough to drop in the V-8?

I think the Marauder is heading in the right direction, I just hope the GTO(Holden) goes the same way. Hard to beat black on black with chrome accents.

Indeed it is, especially for a big, classy, mean-looking car like the Marauder, and the Impala SS back in its day. When it went purple, I knew the end was near. But if GM has a functional brain to share within the corporate hierarchy, they'll bring in the Commodore as a REAL Impala SS to fight the Marauder. 'Cause they're about to get slaughtered in the performance sedan market.

And if they built a 380-horse Solstice, color me first in line.

I would love to see a new Impala SS. Preferably one that doesn't share a chassis with a teeny little sedan like that Malibu POS, and with an engine larger than 3.8L (which is what the current 'SS' has).
