#20, Much as I hate to suggest this, you might want to look at the Ford Escort. My sister has one (`97, I think) and it gets 30+ MPG in mixed driving (despite her tendency to launch it pretty hard and rev it pretty high) and has been reliable so far. It seems to have decent acceleration for what it is, too. |

Late model V6 Camaros get 30 mpg on the highway. *Kicking around ideas* |

#46, Of course, they'll be a bit of DiRF's price range, methinks. |

#46, My Mustang pulls high 20's on the highway, but the city gas mileage is bad (mostly my fault).
Still, even with the V6 pony cars, the insurance is terrible. The Camaro is actually worse than the Mustang in that regard, at least according to my insurance company. :-) |

#47, Hence my suggestion. My sister's cost $4K and was a particularly good example. I'm sure if you went back a couple years, you could find one that was actually cheap AND running. |

Kias are always cheap secondhand. Crack all the Kia jokes you want, but I have some experience with driving and maintaining them, and they're not all bad apart from their interiors (which fall apart after about 40k miles). And certainly they're no worse than a Tercel. |

#48, Insurance on my Camaro was always surprisingly cheap. I don't remember how much, but it was cheap. And that's with a high school student listed as the primary driver. |

#52, they must be built to last too. my friend has a kia sportage and he hasn't changed the oil in two years and it's somehow still driving...not driving well for obvious reasons, but still on the road. |

#56, They seem to be reliable and the exterior build quality is sound, but it's just those damn interiors. There is almost no fabric in the interior of a Kia. |

#53, My parents pay ~$2000/yr. for my insurance, if I recall correctly. Sure, that's with comprehensive and everything else (it IS a new car, after all) but it's still rather high, considering I'm a 21 yr. old male with no tickets, a good student (some places give discounts for that) and no accidents in which I was at fault.
We looked at the insurance rates for other cars, and even the V6 Camaros were actually in a higher bracket than that. |

#55, Just wondering. I'm doing Computer Science, and I enjoyed the whole experience so much that it made me want to be a lawyer. |
