#20, I'm starting to think Chrysler is just as bad as GM in that department.

I kinda like the tail lights on that concept.

to me this concept car looks like a mix of Ferrari and an NSX, which i like. I just hope Dodge doesn't repeat GM's mistake with the new GTO and just shove a Viper engine in it or something, instead of giving it a new engine.

#23, Cause you know how incredibly cheap it is to make an entirely new engine for just one car...

okay, here's my gripe: the new GTO seems to be a repackaging of the camaro using the GTO name to get some cheap publicity, and it just seems like an insult to the name. The GTO was renown for being a big power car, so give it something better than the worn-out LS1 (and besides, i never said that the engine had to be for one car only).

Depending on sales, the GTO will be improved on in the next few years. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, its what they did with the first one too.

#25, Suddenly LS1s don't make big power? And for the record, the power for the GTO is supposed to be bumped to 350...of course, most LS1 fans will tell you that the engine was really making 350 hp all along. And the new GTO and Camaro have little at all in common. The GTO isn't even going to be using a live axle.

To compare the sales tactic of the new one and the original is like comparing apples and oranges. And besides, GM isn't exactly short on cash.

Wow....that's some rampant ignorance I'm seeing... The only thing the new GTO has in common with the Camaro is the fact that it has a SBC and RWD. THAT'S IT.

The GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro, which is a two-door Holden Commodore, which is basically a rebadged German Opel Omega, with beefed-up suspension and a SBC crammed in it.

The Pontiac GTO's platform has NOTHING to do with the F-bodies.

#25, There's nothing all that "worn out" about the LS series of engines. They're pretty much the pinnacle of OHV smallblocks in many regards.

#31 Is that really true?
The new GTO is basically a two-doored Opel Omega? Wow, i didn´t know that!
The Omega isn´t even in production anymore.

#33, Indirecty, a two-doored Opel Omega, yes. But Holden did QUITE a bit with the suspension and drivetrain before it became the Commodore/Monaro... Those Holdens can keep pace with Bimmers pretty well.

Of course, the major transition must have been done by Holden and Pontiac, since the Omega was never alailable as a two-door version. There hasn´t even been a performance version, as far as I remember.
But that´s just what would have helped to boost Opel sales: A V8 two-door Omega coupe´. Ah, well...

#35, Actually...the Omega-based Commodore has been around for QUITE a while, and Holden made a concept version called the "Monaro" where they did a complete rebody of the Commodore, with no body pieces being the same. The Monaro name was taken from Holden's great line of muscle cars from the late '60s early '70s.
Holden got such a great reaction for the concept, they decided to build it. Bob Lutz, newly hired by GM, went to Australia to test drive the production Monaro, found it to be so great, he demanded GM bring it to America, so GM did, and badged it as the Pontiac GTO.

(Bob Lutz was the guy at Chrysler that got them to build the Viper, Prowler, and PT Cruiser, before he left in the late '90s due to 'creative differences') Bob Lutz is also the guy who's trying to turn around Pontiac... The Solstice, removing all plastic bodycladding from Pontiacs, putting a V8 in the Bonny, and the new Grand Prix and G6 are all of Lutz's doing.

Thanks for the info. As I said, I find it rather sad that GM never brought the concept to germany with a coupe version of the Opel Omega. Ópel has been through some hard times recently and I figure it could have needed some V8 against Mercedes, Audi and BMW.

#37, Well, I do know that GM has started selling the Holden Monaro in Great Britain, as the "Vauxhall Monaro"...I don't know if Opel is getting a version of it. Would make sense though, since Opel and Vauxhall basically have the same exact cars.

(And, as a sidenote, the Middle East gets imported Holdens, but badged as Chevy Luminas and Chevy Caprices. They get the Monaro, but it's badged as a "Chevy Lumina SS coupe" weird, huh?)

#38 I don´t think that germany will get these cars, since they officially stopped making the Omega.

(btw... This GM-rebadging thing is getting out of control!) :D
