Some trivia: The same hood, grille and ground effects were also used on the 80-81 Cobra and 82 GT. Then, the bumper was used on the bubble-butt Capris.

To be perfectly honest, I think this is still one of the best looking Indy 500 pace cars ever. Even the graphics package, born just on the tail-end of '70stastic era, has aged extremely well, in my opinion. Watching footage of the '79 500, seeing the trio of these pace cars lead the field at the beginning ( https://youtu.be/ZGwyd_p_NZY?t=724 ), they look just as good in motion.

Even though I was born in '88, these, and the Corvettes are some of my favorites. (The 1978 I mean).

#9, Yeah, when you say "Corvette" in reference to Indy 500 pace cars, it really doesn't narrow it down that much :P

I'm partial to the 1967 and 1969 Camaro pace cars, though the 1968 Torino GT that came in between also had a pleasing color scheme.
