#21, I have a Haynes for my Firebird, but you need to be sure it includes your model it'll say on the cover which ones are included ,mine is for "all V8 models 1970-81", I'd trust Haynes more than Chilton, Haynes uses a lot more pics, but both are guilty of oversimplifying some stuff, but mine is an older edition, so maybe they've changed a bit since the 80's?

#21, No, I take that back, mine is Haynes, too. "Chevrolet Camaro: 1982 thru 1992, all models".

Here's the direct quote:

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet pipes. Use care in removing the hoses so as not to damage the heater pipes. If necessary, cut the hoses off the pipes and replaces the hoses with new ones.
4. Remove the lower hush panels from under th left and right side of the instrument panel.
5. Remove the insturment panel pad. Retaining screws are located in the defroster vents and along the underside of the rear edge of the pad.
6. Remove the retaining nuts to both front speakers and remove the speakers. Also remove the right speaker bracket.
7. Remove the screws retaining the side window defrost ducts, the front carrier braces and the carrier shelf and remove the side defrost ducts.

my Haynes covers every single Fox-body stang/caprie sp? and because of that, it leaves out a lot of shit, the Chilton i had for my cavy seemed to have every square inch of the car covered

The Chilton for my old 78' Dodge was probalby the worst written one I've ever seen, the only good thing it had were the torque specs and sequences for the engine bolts, but then again, that was a very old printing, like 1980 or so

8. Carefully disconnect the Electronic Control Module and set it safely aside.
9. Remove the radio trim plate, the upper console trim, and the glove box assembly.
10. Remove the parking brake handle grip, the screws retaining the console body, and position the console back out of the way.
11. Remove the trim plate under the steering column. Remove the two nuts retaining the steering column and carefully lower and support the steering column out of the way.
12. Remove the two nuts and four screws retaining the instrument panel to the firewall and move the instrument panel back far enough to access the heater module.
13. Remove the screws retaining the heater core cover and remove the cover.
14. Remove the screws retaining the shroud. Remove the shroud and the heater core.
15. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace the seals with new ones. Refill the cooling system and check for leaks.

Souds like a real pain in the trunklid.

#29, I was afraid of that, 70% of the time a blown core requires removal of the dash to get it out... If it sounds a bit too daunting for you, I'd take it to a garage, or just live without heat...... dunno how hard that is up in the Great White North......

Bah. Anything can be fixed with a Sawzall and some duct tape.

#30, c'mon! in july and august we had a heat-wave (36c-40c!)

and i can live witout heat. It's just that after about an 2 hours of driving dense UN-WIPEABLE steam-like film builds up on the windshield making it kinda hard to see out of it.

#33, Yeah, from what Skid's posted, sounds like you have to take the dash out to do it, Like I said, if you feel you can handle that, go for it and get the manual, if not, save up and take it to the dealer, they've probably done lots of these kind of repairs, and that fluid/steam can't be good for the interior in the long run, I think coolant is actualy mildy acidic

#35, For some reason, and I don't know why, every single 80's car has a bad headliner in it, our family has 2 cars with bad healdiners , 83' wagoneer, 82' 5th Avenue, my Dodge at least had a bear metal ceiling
