Poor Aerocoupe. Still, maybe it could still be saved. Maybe the current owner will keep it in good enough shape that the next owner will rebuild it the right way.

Just random... at work, some guy came in ranting and raving about how our city was wasting money, our code enforcement was worthless, and he specifically cited a a broken-down car on his street, half-covered by a tarp that has been in a driveway for years... he also complained about the noises from local bars and strip clubs... after he left, my boss and I thought the complaints were strange, as there are no late-night bars/clubs in city limits...

...his description of the broken-down car was pretty detailed, and since he claimed it had been there for years, we both went scouring through Google Streetview, starting around where there ARE late-night bars/clubs, and found the car he was talking about... a Monte Carlo Aerocoupe, half-covered by a tarp...

...located OUTSIDE city jurisdiction (in an unincorporated area, so it falls to County code enforcement... hell, that means there was none of his money actually going to our city for us to "waste"...) It's highly possible he's lived decades not knowing he didn't actually live in the city.

#11, It's ironic, but, the kind of person who is VERY interested in code enforcement is the person actual code enforcement would LEAST like to hear from.

Oh, and those rims are cancer.....

#11, So he's been bitching at a city that he doesn't even live in to enforce municipal codes that don't apply to him or his neighbours.

Did you tell him to sit on it?

#13, We didn't realize (for certain) until after he had left that he wasn't a resident. He also claimed he'd show up at a city council meeting to voice his complaints... it's been a few months, and we haven't seen hide nor hair of him since.

Though, at one point during the original incident, when we pointed to a map of city boundaries, that's when he started wrapping up his "visit" with us and left pretty shortly thereafter. Perhaps it was then that he realized his error.

[edit] ...and I should note, we are customer service oriented, no matter the nature of the "customer"... you mouth off to ONE person, and you could end up on social media or Youtube. It's happened to neighboring cities in the past.

#12, Actually, resident complaints are very useful for code enforcement. Our CE officers do go on regular patrols, looking for violations, but complaints are pretty much the biggest "launching point" for violation investigations.

The guy I'm referencing claimed he had not, nor would he ever, file a complaint directly to code enforcement... he gave me the impression he didn't want to be a "snitch"...

#14, The ones that threaten you, or tell you some version of "You know what I'm gonna dooooooo?!" are always too lazy and/or incompetent to follow up.

In my line of work, much like yours, the ones who leave quietly without saying a thing scare me more than the ones having an apoplectic fit. They either went home to call their lawyer, or get a gun.
