Just like the Zimmer Quicksilver, it does something very interesting with Corvette turn signals...

So, because of those signals, this thing has to be at LEAST an '84, or newer. Wonder what it's based on...

http://www.cars-on-line.com/15175.html

"The body is composed of Kevlar and built on a Chevrolet Caprice Chassis with 5.0L V-8 Engine."

Assuming that's correct, there's your answer.

#2, Danke. They definitely did a nice job creating a new body for it, rather than just doing a "front clip/rear clip" swap job, like the F-body Avantiis of the late '90s.

I think the Caprice chassis was a full frame, so it was probably easier to do more elaborate coachwork than on the unibody F-cars.

#4, Indeed. You definintely know more about the under-the-skin aspect of cars than I do... or maybe I'm just REALLY forgetful :(

During the final few years of the Avanti's construction there was an earnest attempt to make it go head-to-head with the likes of Lexus and Infiniti, which at that time was considered to be the "entry-level premium" market. They offered four door and cabriolet versions of the Avanti as well as the traditional two door coupe, and they offered crazy features like a console-mounted television for the back seat passengers.

EDIT: And I MUST OBTAIN that sky blue '58-'60 Corvette back there. Hotness.

I saw an Avanti on the highway the other day followed not far behind by a 40sish Studebaker truck.....must have been a Stude meet nearby.
