I think the Caprice chassis was a full frame, so it was probably easier to do more elaborate coachwork than on the unibody F-cars. |

During the final few years of the Avanti's construction there was an earnest attempt to make it go head-to-head with the likes of Lexus and Infiniti, which at that time was considered to be the "entry-level premium" market. They offered four door and cabriolet versions of the Avanti as well as the traditional two door coupe, and they offered crazy features like a console-mounted television for the back seat passengers.
EDIT: And I MUST OBTAIN that sky blue '58-'60 Corvette back there. Hotness.

I saw an Avanti on the highway the other day followed not far behind by a 40sish Studebaker truck.....must have been a Stude meet nearby. |
