To be honest, I never understood the fandom of Ridge Racer... I played the games here and there... and they were nothing special... they weren't even the most creative nor interesting "unlicensed" cars I've seen in videogames...

#4, I liked it because it was the only real alternative to the badly-worn Daytona USA machine at my arcade, or that absolutely ancient Pole Position machine that had a CRC tube so worn out it looked like "Driving F1 in Heavy Fog While Drunk and Missing a Contact Lens Simulator" instead.

my favorites were Rush, Rush 2049, and Cruisin USA and World.

#6, Oh, those Midway arcade games were all fantastic... the N64 ports were pretty damn good, as well.

Loved Rush if, for no other reason, it had an actual clutch pedal, and you could show off you knew stick. I mean, REALLY knew stick.

Cruis'n USA and World were good. Lest we forget though, Cruis'n Exotica and how utterly horrific its N64 port was compared to the arcade version. I rented it because I wanted to play the arcade machine but didn't have access to one easily. Man, that was a HUGE disappointment. No licensed cars (arcade had pretty decent actual cars complete with badges), everything from the tracks to the character selector dumbed down and simplified and just ruined.
