Gung Ho. They're actually Fiats, I think.

#4, *ding ding ding* we have a winner. On both counts.

...also, there were Assan hatchbacks in this movie, which were basically Plymouth Horizons with European headlights... and a Plymouth Turismo here and there.

I think it's pretty funny that, one of the main criticisms of "Gung Ho" was that the idea of a Japanese car company opening a factory in America was considered totally "absurd" at that time, and could "never happen" :P

I remember the film coming on HBO a lot when I was about four or five, and I saw many times. Tried to watch it again for the first time since then the other night, but got sidetracked and only saw the beginning of it.

When I was little, my main memories come from Michael Keaton driving a Pacer in the beginning (I had a thing for Pacers when I was little, and I guess I still do), the scene where he picks a car from the line and tries to drive it and it falls to pieces (hilarious), and the scene where he's trying to get into his psuedo-Plymouth Horizon and the door handle comes off (funny because my aunt had a gold Horizon at that time, and it did THE SAME THING).

ASSAN the ASSAN is you!

Also, reminds me of some Alfa thing from the late 80s. I believe that, the Saab 9000 this and some Lancia all used the same running gear.

Fiat Croma. I think there were a couple of Fiat 127s there too.

I just realized something, surprised I didn't realize earlier... so, all the shots at the auto plant were filmed at a Fiat plant in Argentina, so all the "Assans" that appear in those scenes are the Fiats (Regatas and Spazios), of course.

...all other scenes, that were filmed in America, they used ChryCo Horizons... I guess they figured, from a distance, with the "Assan" badging, the Fiat Spazios and ChryCo Horizons would look similar enough... (Except for the one Regata used by Keaton's character... I guess they specially imported that one for filming)
