OK, here's what it comes down to for me. Impala vs. CV. Run them both repeatedly over railroad tracks at high speed and see which one shakes apart first. There's a number of reasons why cops loved their Caprices and Crown Vics, one of which was that they could take a lot of battle damage and keep going. I have to wonder if an Impala is strong enough to take that kind of abuse.

CV's are relatively cheap and are comparatively a very safe sedan, they're roomy and can carry alot of police equipment and if cops have been using them for the last quarter century then they must fulfill the duites of a police vehicle pretty damn well. Their poweplant is lackluster but that's why they have CB radios, helicopters and spike strips now isn't it?

I don't get where people think the Crown Vic is so much more roomy than an Impala or Charger... they think "Oh, well it's the biggest car, so it's gotta be roomy, right?"

Wrong. Remember, the Crown Vic IS still a 25-year old car basically... Detroit wasn't exactly on the cutting edge of space efficiency for car interiors... The only thing, roomwise, that the Crown Vic has over its competitors is the bootspace, which is literally gigantic in the Vic.
