#5, The last thirty years, then.
Finally some mediocre to decent cars! Thank god for Opel. |

#6, No shit, the Astra really kicked GM in the ass, it's good to see Chevy and Saturn cars that don't look like dust busters with chrome lips on them. |

#8, Oh yeah, it's still a shock to me to see a Saturn manufactured vehicle I'd actually want to drive. |

#10, Regardless, Saturn's taking big leaps in the right direction. Sporty, European-designed sedans and hatches as opposed to the listless crap they churned out beforehand. |

#11, I honestly don't know how they sold the first and second gen cars - the drove so poorly in every way and were so low in quality even in relation to other contemporary GM products it's almost unbelievable. Never underestimate the stupidity of Americans. |

#12, they were low priced and never broke down. Not everyone is a spirited driver. |

#13, I said nothing about "spirited driving".
They shook violently, shifted like they were broken, the interior isn't made of plastic fitting for a flyswatter and they rode like shit. Also not that reliable.
I could go on. |

#14, Funny. My sister has a '98 SL1 with 200k+ on it. It drives fine for what she needs. Yes it shakes like hell at idle, yes the interior is incredibly chintzy, yes the gauge cluster is far too huge for the vehicle, but it's reliable. I do see your points, and I do think the cars are at the bottom of the class per se, they are fine (cheap) transportation. |

#16, I still disagree. There is nothing wrong with cheap, but cheap doesn't need to make you feel poor.
There are far, far, far better cars for the money.
I've driven literally hundreds of cars and they are still the worst. |

#18, he must have been slowly and persistently understeering himself mad in a spirited fashion until it crapped out.
