#25, Alfa Romeos are amazing cars. They may just seem to be rebodied Fiats, but... I don't know. There is something very special about them. You have to ride in one to feel it.
I never thought much about thr 156 until a guy gave me a ride in his 2.5. Holy shit... the most amazing thing was the engine, 170hp doesn't seem to be much nowadays but the way this power is being created... there is just a gurgle-rumble at idle, a bit of a vroom until 5000rpm... and then suddenly all hell brakes loose. The car shoots forward with an orgasmic roar and revs, revs and revs... good lord, I think this is how a race engine feels like. And it's so quick to react... the guy had to buy a Seicento for amateur rallies because he likes to kick the gas and the Alfa just ate the front tires like crazy.
Another amazing thing is that it's just a tame and comfortable grocery getter if you keep it under 5000 and transforms to something surprisingly brutal if you puch it. Wonderful. |

#26, I'd love an old one... but that new Brera is SUCH a disappointment. Alfa really needs to start mating those fine motors to RWD chassis. |

#24, Fuck yeah.... that 3.0 sounds amazing, so does the 2.5 which I think was the one I was hearing. I'll have to confirm when he gets it out this summer. |

that layered, textured, cammy sound on mid to high rpms under high load is the sound of exotica. |

#28, Keep in mind, these are pretty old engines, old school. And that's what makes them so amazing, they are relicts of a time when Italians put all their passion into making cars, no place for accountants in Mario's engine shop! |

#30, Ahah yeah, and I wonder where the guy gets his parts and do maintenance. I know there's some Italian car specialists in Quebec but damn, all the $$$$.... |

#31, Hm. Maybe the little parts are interchangeable with Fiats (although the 164 isn't based on Fiat Tipo as the 155 is) but the major stuff... whoopsie. See, the differences are quite major (save for the obvious stuff... interior, bodywork, etc.): Alfa usually modifies the suspension by quite a bit or makes their own, and they always make their own drive train. |

#32, Yeah but Fiats are also a rare sight here (as well as Citroens, Renaults and Peugeots) so.. I guess he orders everything from Europe by internet. That's another question I'll have to ask him. That guy really loves his car, he washes it every week in summer and I bet he stores it in a heated garage during winter. Hell, I would the same if I had more money. |

#33, Washing a car too often will destroy the paintwork I heard. Just wash it, apply some good wax and just use a Karcher or some similiar high-pressure washer to spray it clean. |

#34, It depends what soap you use. Dishwashing soap does destroy the paint over time but products professionally designed to wash vehicles are not supposed to. Personnally, I wash my car about 5 times in the summer but every 2 years, I do a MAJOR cleaning job inside and out (with a Karcher actually). I remove the seats and wash everything. When I'm done, the car actually looks and smells like new. It takes me about 3 days to do it right. Yes, I'm nuts. |
