Description:
Porsche 356 Speedster I spotted in a neighbor's garage while on a walk. I have no clue whether it's a replica, but it has a very old-looking Cali plate on it.

That's a very odd looking exhaust for a boxer engine. Anyone else agree?

That's no boxer motor, the exhaust just doesn't make sense. Also, your neighbor would have to be a very well-off man, original Speedsters are among the rarest of 356s, usually selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I may be wrong about it being a Speedster. I haven't seen it driving around more than maybe twice and haven't seen it up close (I shot the picture from across the street from behind a van so the owner wouldn't see me). Even if it is a kit, it's a nice kit.

#5, It's a Speedster alright, the windshield gives it away. The kits are very nice, and essentially the same damn thing anyway!

Last time I saw this car on the street it almost got T-boned by a stupid teen girl who ran a stop sign while pulling out of a condo complex.

Another neighbor of mine used to have a silver Jag XK120 coupe, but he moved away. Another had a '66 Mustang GT350R clone; it was sold sometime last year. Most of the cars in my area are quite unremarkable, you have to keep an eye out for the cool stuff that shows up every so often.

I'd chance a guess that the plate on this car was originally a blue plate with yellow lettering issued in April 1975, and repainted in the style in the 1956-62 yellow plates. The registration pattern is unlike anything from the yellow-plate era and the P** suffix matches this plate from April 1975.

Why on Earth does his license plate frame say "Seabiscuit?"

#8, Are you allowed to repaint your license plate? Seems dodgy.

#10, Some folks do it to imitate the style of an older era. It's not uncommon to see an owner take a modern 1ABC123 plate and repaint it black with yellow digits despite the sequence being completely wrong for a 1963-69 plate and even having too many numbers. Someone down the street from me used to have a red VW Cabrio with the convertible top and upholstery painted gold to represent their dedication as 49ers football fans. The license plates were painted gold with red lettering. I doubt you're supposed to paint your plates, but as long as the numbers are clearly legible, the state is visible, and your tags are current and license plate lights are working, I doubt the cops can do anything to you. Besides, you can get certain official custom plate designs from the DMV that look different from the standard template.
