Mine came from Automotive Valhalla, also known as Pull-A-Part. They've got a flat rate for engines. A Honda 4-popper with a blown head gasket and a spun bearing would theoretically cost the same as a mint 428 Cobra Jet. Of course you will never, never, EVER in a million years find a 428 Cobra Jet at Pull-A-Part, but you WILL find 460s, 429s, 351s, 302s... everything your little Ford-loving self needs to build a nasty hot rod. I imagine their Chevy and Mopar selection is comparable, though I've never had a reason to look. |

I'm the only guy I know that bought an engine that was totally seized on purpose. |

We put an add in the local auto locator looking for a Small BLock Chevy block with 4 bolt mains, within a week we had 20 calls, guess the SBC really is the belly-button engine out there, everyone it seems had one |

Most of our junkyards down here suck, nothing but K-cars and F250s. |

Pull-A-Part seriously rocks. Best salvage yard EVER. It's freaking enormous, got all sorts of stuff, refreshes the inventory often... and you pull your own stuff, so you can pick the good and skip the bad. Plus it's cheaper that way. And they've got good stuff, too. |

I love going to large open yards, even if I don't need parts, I'll go to just browse around see whats there, play the "What did this thing hit" game with the wrecks, check out the old cars, good way to kill a lazy weekend..... |

lets see. a near total listing of backup parts I have lying around, with no use in sight.
1970 Ford 351W, runs. barely.
1973 Ford 9-Inch rearend, no LSD.
1990 350 with a cracked block. been meaning to pull the pistons and heads and sell em.
1991 EFI 383, fairly good condition. backup engine.
19?? T5
Paxton supercharger for a 5.0
4 old torque converters, all usable.
set of Vortec heads for said 383. Been meaning to mount em.
a gas tank from a 1967 corvette, original.
3 1969 Camaro Rallye wheels.
about 8 sets of road racing slicks
4 Volk TE37s.
4 stock Mitsubishi wheels.
A NP203 (I think) transfer case.
a 3.1 V6
some other middling stuff. I tend to collect random things. |

2 of them are stock truck converters, then a 2500 and a 4000rpm. the one in the truck is a 3000, that ended up working the best. |

My random-parts collection is nowhere near as big or useful. I've got an old Ford 400, 289 and 302, don't know if any of them run. Two Ford 9-inch rear ends, neither anything to write home about. Got the three for $7 at an auction, and I keep meaning to unload the other two on Ebay. I have two rusty steelies with bald tires and two mismatched rusty Cragar knockoffs (what was on the 'Stang when I bought it,) a couple C4 transmissions, a C6 (mounted on the 400) and a complete EFI setup for a 5.0 Mustang. Y'know, CRX, between your parts and mine, we have a pretty good 5.0 powertrain going here... |

I intend to grab a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe engine if I ever see a complete one... stuff it into a PintoStang for a quick budget screamer. |

I've actually been considering putting the 383 in there, the 454 is getting high on miles, and I could use some better gas milage. It's not like I race in the thing, anyway. It's a daily driver and parts transportation. |
