Only if you didn't have a 454 in it, then it would be positively ricey, but since it does.... well, you know |

You wanna hear the whole story behind this truck? It's kind of strange. |

Ok, here goes. This truck was originally built as a Chevrolet in 1990, with a middin 350. (230 or so Hp, 300 or so torque.) It was driven 6,000 miles, and then carefully wrecked and stacked among hundreds of other damaged vehicles awaiting the crusher, which is where I found it in early 1991. The block had been cracked in the accident, and the entire front end was a loss. (I belive he rear ended a logging truck at 90mph.) I found a 1991 front end, from a GMC, and mounted it. I also stole all the GMC emblems and whatnot, so as to make everything match up. Then the truck was reconcieved by me with a carbureted 454, circa 1967, a 5-speed transmission, and (strangely enough) a Ford 9 inch with 4.10s and no limited slip. I drove it happily through high school. I sold it when I received my graduation present, a fully restored 1968 390-powered Mustang coupe. (complete with stylin' vinyl top.) Fast forward 10 years. While searching for a daily driver, devestated by the loss of my CRX, I came across a 1991 GMC 1500, that would not pass emissions, for an embarrisingly low price. I investigated, and found my old truck. It had been passed like a joint between 4 people since the last I had seen it. It had picked up a couple of dents, 100,000 miles, and a lot of paint chips. It would not pass emissions because of the aformentioned carbureted 454. I bought it on the spot. I needed to get it street legal, so out came the 454 and the 5-speed, and in went a 383 and an automatic, on loan from a friend. After the emissions nazis were satisfied, I began the search for a suitable street-legal engine. After much searching, I located the remains of a '94 (I think) 454 SS Chevy Truck. The entire drivetrain was removed from the SS, and placed in mine. Gone (thankfully) was the evil ford influence on my beast, and that's where things stand now. |

He he, I should keep a spare engine on hand incase the emissions nazis ever set up shop in my state, just swap it in for the test and back out the next day |

that's basically what I did. I still have that 9 inch lying around somewhere, I've been meaning to find a use for it. |

I miss the old 5-speed, but the automatic is so much less of a pain in the ass. |

I miss the 5-speed in my Honda, but hey, i'll take a slushbox if I have to, and considering the other end is matched up to a 403 Olds, I got no complaints |

That's something that always cracked me up about drag race guys. They're like, "I have to have an automatic, I have 500hp, that's too much to put to ground with a stick." I'm always like, hey, I've managed to put 600hp to the ground with a stick WHILE I WAS TURNING! |

Hey, if it's got a 454, go for it. Nothing wrong with that. And as for the truck.... it looks pretty much like all the rest of the GMC 1500s on the road. Which is a good thing, if you want to sneak up on people. As for the "evil Ford influence," I guarandamntee that 9-inch is better than whatever you put in there. Ford 9-inch is the best rear end in the world, bar none. Every NASCAR racer, damn near all dirt-track, circle-track and drag cars use it. Why? Because it's the best there is. Just my two cents worth. If you don't find a use for the 9, put it on Ebay; you can make some bucks off one of those, especially if it's got the 31-spline axles. But no limited-slip? That's kinda goofy, especially with 4:10s. Who the hell would order THAT? |

It originally had something crappy like 2.73s. I couldn't afford a LSD. And I like my 12-bolt. |

And out of pure curiosity, what happened to the Mustang? |

oh, and the evil ford influence bit was a joke. Mostly I wanted to have matching wheels, since the 9-inch has a different bolt pattern. |
