they're cool cars, but plagued by the fact that its a front engine car in a design made for rear engine. The dash is sooooo far back from the windshield

Don't you still have to make it AWD yourself? I didn't think you could pick up an AWD from the factory in the US. Turbo, yes, but no AWD.

the only AWD VW for US markets are passat and passat wagon, known as 4motion. One could order the parts from a dealer, and put a 4motion system in a beetle or golf with a little fabrication

There is a company in Canada that qill put together a VR6 twin turbo AWD bug for you....pretty much all with off the shelf Audi/VW parts. As for getting parts for the AWD part, you wouldn't use parts from the Passat. The "4-Motion" in Passat applications is really an Audi Quattro IV system....makes sense since the Passat is based off the current A6 and '96 to '01 A4. The parts you'd want to buy are from the Quattro TT which is based off the Golf platform and uses the Eurpean VW 4-Motion system.

You know the other sad thing is that is a '02 bettle. In other words the owner managed to screw it up pretty quick!

A 4motion GTi is offered in Europe officially by VW, probably using the same system as the Quattro TT you talked about Pete.

VR6TT AWD would be godlike. I cant think of a cooler car. The thought of a vw kicking supreme ass gets me giddy

The only AWD beetle I know of is the Rsi, which has a v6, I think.

Audi don't have the 4-motion system in the quattros. They have a Torsen differential. The 4-motion is a swedish Haldex construction. Ideal in a road going "civilian" car since it can cooperate with traction control- and stability control systems.

If this is an Rsi, it's okay.

If not, it sucks.
