Its a shame the engineers were too stupid to put the wing on the trunk rather than the body of the car. They wouldn't need that gigantic wing in the first place. (yeah, thats why they put it on there..so you could open the trunk. thats it.)

Still love the car though.

This is bad as hell. I wish they'd made them more than two years.

I don't think the street Superbirds sold very well, both because of how they looked and they had absolutely horrid gas mileage, and this was only a few years prior to the fuel crisis. Some people who worked at Dodge/Plymouth dealerships in the 70's have said they can remeber having up to 9 or 10 of these cars lined up out front at once with no buyers to be found. The sticker price was $4298, and that's in 70' figures, pretty steep when a regular Road Runner Coupe ran only $1264. Total production figures were only 1920, the bare minimum required to get NASCAR sanctioning

And MaxWedge... they didn't build them for two years. They built the Charger Daytona for one year ('69) and the Roadrunner Superbird for one year ('70.)

Plymouth engineers actually ended up building this car because the management had put a freeze on new engine development, so aero improvements were the only way they could go, the Daytona's debut was in late 69' at Talledega, an virtual NASCAR nobody, Richard Brickhouse, was behind the wheel and beat the Fords with a top speed of 195 mph, one year later Bobby Issac took home the championship in a Daytona, but by 71' NASCAR and insurance underwriters had shown thier dislike for the cars with sky-high premeiums and rule changes, the wing cars were gone in less than 2 years
