This one appears to be a 426 Hemi, too. I've seen too Hemis dyno'ed: they both made 440 NET horsepower. Damn impressive considering the factory rating was 425 GROSS. |

GROSS is the old system measured without exhaust and the engine out of the car. NET is the current power rating system, the engine power is measured with the engine in the car and all accessories hooked up. NET is naturally lower. Depending on the car, the difference could be anywhere from 10 to about 75 horsepower. People use this change as an excuse to say musclecars weren't that powerful, but people always forget that musclecars were usually under-rated by the company for insurance purposes. |

Gross HP was also measured at the flywheel, NET HP is measured at the rear wheels, so some of the power is lost though turning the drivetrain and never gets to the wheels at all |

No, both are measured at the flywheel. Rear wheel horsepower isn't used in any SAE standards. |

whoops, my bad, but I do know that the govt. mandaded the use of gross HP to give a more "realistic" rating for the car, since Net is taken under "ideal" circumstances that the vehicle will probably never see after purchase |
