Description:
Y'know... we've all been chatting for a long, long time, and I feel rather embarrassed that I don't know what many of you do for a living, so, if people are willing, how about we each just go over what exactly we do?

Shift manager and sidework manager at a restaurant. :) I am in charge of who does sidework, and who gets cut. If you're not up to par, I get to either a) cut you or b) give you sidework or c) if you're being difficult, send you home with no sidework, no tipouts, or no split gratuity if you worked a party.
I am in charge of keeping the laundry going, rolling the silverware, and keeping everything on tap for both the rooftop bar, and the main bar. I also make sangria, juice and sometimes host. :) Fun and I have tons of "customer is always right"-type stories if people wanna hear em. |

I still work in the produce dept for Ingles as needed, most of the time just once a month to stay on payroll. My full time job now is working for a company called elkamet. I run a PE roto-molding machine making fuel, water and DEF tanks for CAT and a few other makers of heavy equipment |

So, I've got bad news... and worse news.
The bad news, they're implementing a new database software at work that is ridiculously complicated and clunky, and will take 4-5x as long to do my job...
The worse news? The reason it's so complicated is because it's extremely far-reaching in its capabilities, and, once it's fully implemented, all the bugs worked out, and everyone is finally familiar with how to get the most out of it... it will make my job redundant. I'll most likely stay with the agency, but in a different, less fulfilling role. :(
I figure it'll be anywhere from a year to five years before that happens, though. I'll adapt to a new role, I'm sure, but there are others in my department that are rather up there in age, and might not be able to handle a new role as easily... |

I wish you luck in wherever you go/whatever you do.
edit: and I sometimes forget about off-topic threads, and I thought you were posting about a recent car or bike accident. :(

#17, Sounds good. Will they give you any shit for not wanting to use the new software? |

#18, Uh, I don't have a choice. It goes live later this year, and the current software gets deactivated.
The upcoming new software is amazing in its technological breadth, capabilities, and wide-reaching interaction with agencies all over the county (and neighboring counties, for that matter)... but because of it having to communicate with all those other agencies is why it's rather clunky. In the long-run, it'll make a massive improvement in how the agency functions, and overall efficiency... (of course, eliminating jobs is part of that efficiency)
The current software, I absolutely fly on. I can enter data on it like nobody's business... but it's very isolated in its scope, and isn't exactly the most stable piece of software either (I have to reboot many times an hour if I'm putting in a mountain of data)

#19, I gathered that, but I mean, if you told them, you'd rather do something else than use the new system. Sorry for the confusion. |
