#59, "The Horns of Jericho". It wasn't any functional thing, it was little sirens put on the landing gear specifically to make that noise. |

#62, I think people were more scared by the bombs dropping on their head. Stukas were deadly accurate -- luckily they couldn't carry a very big load. |

#63, And they were slow and easy to pick off when not in a dive, so once the Nazi's lost air suppremacy, the Stukas were out of the picture |

#63 this reminds me of the V-1 rocket. you could hear it coming because it made this kind of...i would think whirring sound...and when it turned off everyone stopped and listened for the explosion. |

#65, It was called the "Buzz Bomb" because it used a unique off/on/off/on rocket engine that made a buzzing noise while active..... |

Most of the Stuka's trademark "banshee scream" was actually the air whistling through the hole in the huge "air brake" flaps they used when diving. At first, it was unintentional, but the Nazis capitalized on it in no time. That half the reason I dig the plane. And the big-ass guns. |

#71, Big-ass guns? IIRC the Stuka had two 7.92mm guns in the nose and another in the turret in the backseat. |

The Hawker Hurricane and Spitfire had eight .303 Vickers apiece. .303 Enfield doesn't quite have the sheer punch of .50 BMG, but it definitely had an edge as far as filling the sky with lead went.
