It's like something the anti-hero in a brutal action/comedy might drive... whether it be an alcoholic detective or a lazy ex-hippie who's been unwillingly dragged into a complicated plot...

#7, Or a muscle-bound former US Marshall with a sardonic sense of humor and an inexplicable Austrian accent, despite having a name like "John Turner" or "Harry Brewer."

#8, Jack Slater. :)

I'm also reminded of Bruce Willis's '71 Riviera from "The Last Boy Scout".

#9, I still contend that Last Action Hero is a good film... it really plays with and celebrates various tropes very well, and the villain is FANTASTIC.

The only real problem is the kid... poorly written and directed... maybe the kid was a better actor than that, but that was not a good performance.

#10, I think it was ahead of it's time, back then, the idea of action hero parody as a serious thing, and not say an SNL skit, was something a lot of people didn't "get". It's kind of a cult classic now, but, at the time, when Ahnold was a grade-A action movie draw, the idea of him doing something else didn't click with people. I like it too, FWIW.

#11, It was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I still like it. The only thing that hasn't aged well is some of the special effects.

"Eighty-nine Merc'ry Sable, standard driver side airbag. Checker cab, no airbag. Who is dumb?"

#12, Even the badly-aged, cheesy special effects work in the context of the film...
