No, not really, in a few words, its about the life of a rock musician. Inspired by Syd Barrett, and early memeber of Pink Floyd who left becuase of drug problems. Wish You Were Here which lead up to the album that inspired this movie was also inspired by Syd Barrett. He actually showed up in the studio during the recording of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, with no hair on his head. The band used this visual effect on 'Pink Floyd' in the movie.

Barrett's drug problems were allegedly so severe that he'd go catatonic on stage, strumming the same chord over and over again for extended periods of time. Since he was becoming unmanageable as a stage performer, the group hired Dave Gilmour to play guitar during live performances. Eventually, as it became clear that Barrett was burning out, even as a songwriter, the rest of the group dropped him.

Roger Waters also attributes part of The Wall's origin to his own actions--to some extent, he wanted to make an album/movie/stage show about alienating his fans, such as when he spat on one of them during the Animals tour. The Wall stage show actually involved the construction of a very large wall across the stage, which eventually shut the band off from the audience, before crashing down in the finale.

It was a good album, movie, and stage show, but after Waters himself left Floyd in the early 80's, he kept making albums with the same basic themes. Annoying.

#4, I just remember reading a bit of their history. I have most, but not all, of their studio albums. Favorites would have to be Wish You Were Here and (ironically) some of the stuff the band did after Waters left (I actually really liked The Division Bell).

Yea, some people actually like post-Waters Floyd. I myself cant stand anything after he left. Even The Final Cut wasa little strange for me. Some of the sound effects and the way they used the women in Not Now John, just seemed fake and dumb. As for my favorite album, I'd have to say Wish You Were Here, but its a tough decision. With such great songs as Echoes and the whole Animals album, Wish You Were Here is still my favorite. Although Dark Side I probably listen to more.

check out the Syd Barrett solo albums for some trippy rock. The guy was a genius (and started Pink Floyd) - but sure burned out quickly!

If you want some more melodic trippy music try King Crimson. Discipline is probably their best album, along with their first, In The Court Of The Crimson King.

not a big fan of acid trippy rock anymore...

I like street/hooligan rock, folk, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo (aussie rock), Motorhead type stuff, baroque music (especially Handel), old country music (ala Hank Williams Sr and Patsy Cline), and a whole slew of obscure stuff...

I used to be a pretty big record collector, but not too much anymore

2. Pigs On The Wing, Part One
3. Dogs
4. Pigs On The Wing, Part Two
5. Pigs(Three different ones)

My old lady is a big fan. We have like 100 Floyd boots. Some of them are great. But I'm more of a Rush fan. Not that Floyd is bad, just that Rush suits my listening needs a little better most of the time.
