#20, So, like I said, dumbass marketing people. Also, the Mistubishi Eclipse Spyder is ALSO a misnomer, seeing as it actually HAS a retractable top.

Same thing with "Phaeton", Spyder has a "cool" sound to it, so dumbshit carmakers affix it to their cars.

#25, Nah. Built on the GM "H" platform, designed for the Chevrolet Vega. This platform was never sold outside of North America.

I guess it was considered all right to call a non-convertible car "Spyder" since it wasn't really possible to get a factory domestic convertible this side of a Jeep CJ for several years after 1976. To me it's similar to the Chevy Nova "Cabriolet", which was a hardtop Nova with a padded vinyl roof that might bear a passing resemblance to a convertible with the top up after a long night of hard drinking and disco.
