The turbo was the same one used on the Ford 2.3 liter 4 cyl. of the day. It was WAAAAY too small for a 301 V8. Basically the restriction it placed in the exhaust stole as much power as it added thus negating the advantag of the turbo. Also the exhaust system on these cars was so restrictive it took about 75 horses just to shove the exhaust out the back! When these were new I raced one from a 30 mph roll with my worn out 283 powerglide and beat it! Now is THAT pathetic or what?? |

Sequels almost always suck. Except Cannonball Run. They could make a hundred of them and with that cast, they'd be funny. The 301 was ONLY built to be a light engine. If you check out the parts, the were all designed to save weight. Which, of course, hurt power. But the 301 in my '80 was pretty quick. I wouldn't go braggin' about it or revvin' like crazy on a new one, but it was quick. |

The 301 was a good engine, but it was the TURBO verisons of them that really sucked because they were not well designed, they sapped power and lagged badly, |
