By 73' The cougar had become a luxury car with a bit of power, rather than a performer, it was sold the same way Linclon Mark VIII's and Marauders are/were

There's a rusty piss-yellow one by the garage of the local mechanic. It's parked in his "parts yard" with about 30 VW bugs, a '65 Corvair, a '66 Toranado, and what appears to be a '69 Chevelle under a ton of brush.

It looks solid (the '73 Cougar), but it most likely isn't. In fact the hood on it is buckled where apparently he tried to shut the hood and the rust weakened the metal.

I remember a Ford truck that was left in the open for years with it's hood up, it got so rusty and weak, when he later tried to close the hood, it folded the fenders down

#5, Reminds me of a story my dad told me about a time in the 70s when he and his friend were out on the coast and a family acquaintance had property with several old rusty cars that were going to be buried in a big pit. One of them was a '35 Ford business coupe that, according to my dad, was so weakened from rust and exposure to salt air that its body basically broke in half when he shut the door. Sadly, one of the vehicles that got dumped in the pit was an apparently still serviceable dune buggy nicknamed "Yogi Bear", built from the chassis of a '40s-era Ford. But alas, that was a long time ago and they're all long gone under tons of dirt.

#4, Post script...just a couple of years ago, the owner of that Cougar (who had left it there because he had never paid for a repair) suddenly showed up, cash in hand, to pay for the cars' repair and storage fees (18 years' worth...the car had been there since '89). Then he loaded it on a trailer and drove off with it.
