rap is the final conclusion music being removed from any kind of meaningful context.
it celebrates money, property, and vacuous sexuality. Ie, the 'gangsta' lifestyle. Gone is music about rebellion, revolution, etc. In fact, rap celebrates over the top capitalism more than anything - music about the ultimate alienation - greed. *whew, takes off hippy clothes, put on flight jacket*

Rap is not the only music genre which seems to have suffered in the terms of actual talent in recent years. Of course rappers have pretty much no talent, but neither do "pop" acts who's singing is digitally enhanced so much that they have to lipsync at concerts (i.e. Britney/Shakira/NSuck)...rockers who only scream and rap (i.e. Linkin Park)...and country music has never really improved.
That's why I rarely listen to anything newer than the mid-90's with the exception of a few rare talents. Most of what I listen to is from the 80's.

I don't like modern rap, but the old-school stuff I love. ie A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, etc.
