Designers at GM wanted a more "european" or "GT" look to the camaro for the 2nd generation. But the bodystyle only lasted two years in this configuration, by 1972, federal regulators had decreed that 5 mph bumpers would have to be standard on cars, and the tiny "bumperettes" under the headlights just wouldn't cut it.

You don't see too many of these cars for a lot of reasons, one of which was a crippling strike at the Norwood Ohio assembly plant held production of 72' Camaros to only 19,000 units, and 1000 of them had to be scrapped on the line because they wouldn't meet 73' regulations on safety or emissions

This is still my favorite generation Camaro by far.
