Hey, I'm not arguing shit. Mad Max just seems to think that the wing cars came out before the Talledega, and that Petty hated the wing cars. Both points are not true.

probably common knowledge to most, but im gonna mention it anyway... that wing is made of aircraft aluminum and goes thru the fenders bolting straight to the frame.

I hate modern nascar. oldschool was better. I do still watch the 2 roadraces a year, though, but that's it.

The best description would be National Association of tubed chassis using technology that was installed on stock cars 30 years ago Racing. CRX is right, what is stock about them? Carbs? nope, Pushrods? nope, RWD? nope, Computers? nope, 4 Wheels? YEAH! THAT"S IT!

The only part they get from Ford/GM/Chrysler is the hood, everythign else is aftermarket from engine/car builders or custom done in the shop. But NASCAR was to a degree, always about "win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" it's just gotten more into that as it got more mainstream

the thing that annoys me so much about the sport is how rediculously finite the restictions are. I happened to see the race where the CAT dodge guy won, the officials were out there measuring the slope of his rear spoiler the second he left the track!

I kinda like the idea where the cars are supposed to run the same, to make it more about driver skill, but the existing rules are ridiculous. and don't even get me started on the points system. that points system (invented in 1970, i think) is the reason so many of the accidents in nascar are fatal. You get Winston Cup points for fininshing, so they make the car as hard as possible so they can get it running again after it hits the wall and get those precious points. The extreme hardness of the cars equals more impact force on the driver which equals more fatalities. Fuckin Nascar.

the points system was fine in the 70s when it was invented, because the cars were already gonna be hard as hell. but now, when we know how to make accidents more survivable, the points system holds us back. Also I'd like to point out that the last 5 seasons of nascar have had more fatalities than all of the other seasons combined. something's wrong here.

Well, the points system rewards consistancy over out and out winning, but I think fatalities are an unfortunate risk on those superspeedways, I've never heard of one happening on the road courses or on the short ovals, but when you're going 190+ even all the safety engineering in the world unfortunately can't guaruntee you'll walk away from it. Prior to the 2000/2001 deaths of Earnhardt, Petty, Roper and who was the fourth? When was the last on-track fatality? Anyone know?
