Description:
Check it out guys, it's a drawing of the 2005 Chevy Cobalt. If this car is not successful, GM may be out of the small car business. So, what do you think?

I like it a lot better than the Cavy from these pics. Let's hope it turns out as good-looking on the street.

I think this car looks very nice, better than all cars in the compact car segment. It's very sporty, and you don't see taillights like that everyday. This could become a hot tuner car.

#6, We must not let that happen.

"It is already well documented that the SS will get the 2.0L supercharged ecotec - claimed 200hp. This engine goes into production for this upcoming model year (2004) so no doubt the mags will be able to get their hands on them in the coming months and we can see what its really got. Now the only quesion is, where is the 2.4L Ecotec (170hp) going to fit into the Cobalt lineup." - Dave (j-body.org webmaster)

#6, the taillights actually remind me of a cougar but not as bad. i think its the circular size differences. anyways, yes if it looks like a honda had mad sex with a cougar then it will be a hot tuner item. chevy's sellin out :( oh wait...that happened when the first 6cyl was named SS. No i'm not saying the 6cyl is a bad engine, but come on...at least save the name for something with more than 200hp. :

#11, Where we stand in the year 2003 (almost 2004), there are very few cars on the road with dual round taillights. The Corvette is the only other car I can think of (the new Impala doesn't count because the tails are just one big piece going across the back of the car). Seeing these lights on a compact is a first, at least in this country.

This car is on the Delta platform, same as the Saturn Ion. Some people complain that it's too heavy, partially due to extra steel used to meet government safety regulations. The SS model of the Cobalt will likely get 4-wheel disc brakes (like the Ion Redline) but no IRS. The Redline also has a 6-speed tranny with LSD so that may appear on the Cobalt too.

This car will be offered in 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan body styles with 8 trim levels. All models will use 4-cylinder Ecotec engines. The 2.2L offers 140hp, the 2.4L 170hp, and the 2.0L S/C 200hp.

I think it should be this- SS = no less than 350ci...

Now if they had a V6 with a 350ci displacement.. holy crap thatd be a big V6... :ponders the possibilities:

#17, I don't know, the 327 in the Impala SS had a bit of scoot to it.

Assuming they keep these pretty simple, they might make a good entry-level performance car. I'd take one over a Neon SRT-4, since I prefer superchargers to turbochargers and these aren't as goofy-looking. The HP seems pretty close, no gap a few bolt ons wouldn't close.

#19, i agree with ya on the taking this over the srt-4 thing. that car just looks odd to me, not sure why. this one doesn't look too bad at all for a smaller car and i'm sure it'd be fun to drive after a few updates to the engine. only problem I have with it is the ss badge, but thats not much of a problem considering i love the monte ss even tho they're underpowered and fwd (2 things i dislike in a car ;)) but i'd definitely take one if i was in that market.
