#21, Yeah, that proves a lot. After 2000 the ZX2 name was stand-alone, which I always said. The 2-door "Escort ZX2" and "Escort sedan" are not the same car either, it's obvious if you see them parked together. That's all I was trying to say all along but you guys are obsessed with finding oppotunities to use your caveman impressions. :P

guess what, four door f-250s look different than two door f-250s. Know something else? They're both f-250s

Yes, they both are on the F-250 line, but that doesn't mean they're identical.

Just like ZX2's were originally on the Escort line, they're not the same cars though.

p.s. You just figured out what I was trying to say! Congrats!

Since our first debate, I've learned what chassis it was built on, the Mazda Protege, with the same engine as the Contour (also produced by Mazda). I wasn't sure the first time around, but that doesn't make me any less RIGHT about it being built on a different base than the sedan.

But anyways, like any of you would know as much about the car as me...

*rolls eyes*

#25, From your own link...

While it doesn't look like it, the sporty little ZX2 is actually sold under the Escort line... A Ford Escort ZX2. It was added to the Ford Escort line when the old Ford Probe was dropped from production. Ford needed a new small 2 door sporty coupe in their line of cars and the Ford Escort ZX2 was it.

My car doesn't say Escort anywhere on it though. Due to the bad connotation that name tends to have among many people in the US, I removed the Escort badging from the car after I purchased it.

Aww, poor thing.

#28, I wonder if the regular Escort chassis shares any components with the Protege. I've ridden in my sister's Escort and in some Proteges of the same vintage, and there's a certain sameness.

That looks too small to be a normal Euro plate...is that a motorcycle plate with this car classified as a cycle?

#37, My sister has a later one than that, but I guess that would at least sort of explain why it reminds me so much of a Protege.

I drive a zx2, the zx2 is basically a mazda chassis with a contour engine. the suspension peices from a 93 protege fit onto the zx2. My sway bar came marked in a box for a 93 protege. just my .2 cents
