Okay, I'm really getting tired of this. People are getting hysterical over this low-carb crap, and it is crap. Eating less than 130 grams of carbohydrates every day puts the body in a state called ketosis, where it feeds off of its own fat to get the nutrients it needs. This is an unnatural condition that can be caused by eliminating any necessary nutrient from your diet. Eating nothing but Skittles for a month would have the same effect.
The reason people get so worked up over it is because they are lazy, and it promises them that they can lose weight by sitting on their asses or doing minimal exercise. I guess they never think of what will happen once they go off the diet and haven't changed their sedentary lifestyles.

You just saved me the several minutes it would've taken me to make a similar rant. This low-carb mania is completely insane, and it seems unhealthy. You really can't lose weight without burning off more calories than you consume--it's that simple. Activity level and other factors determine your energy requirements; go over that and you typically gain weight. There's no rocket science to it; heck, I'm maintaining a weight ~140 lbs. on somewhere between 3-4000 kcal/day simply because I get up and move every once in a while*, and I'm about 6' tall.
*a lot. |

I did weigh 210, but now thanks to the minimal exercise I'm doing (currently 25 push-ups and 25 sit-ups a day, the number is still climbing), after a couple of weeks I'm down to ~200, and most of that is muscle. I haven't changed my diet at all. It's like they say in the military physical fitness programs...what you do is more important than what you eat. |

They have Weight Loss Gum for sale here. I weighted 155 pounds when I came in the Air Force at 18, then I started going to the gym 4 times a week and now I'm up to 175. I'd like to break 185. (I'm 6'1" and white, so thats pretty good) I just try to eat semi-healthy and hit the gym at least 4 times a week. |
