#39 and everything other than a 5000hp Top Fuel is insignificant?
What abot pro Stock and Nitro Funny car? They don´t count? Anything less than the absolute record doesn´t count? And don´t even talk about them godawful-slow cripple 11sek-Slomaros, Rustangs, Roadstumblers... they are driven by a bunch of financially underpowered geeks who are unable to handle a REAL racecar, right?

Like I said before, I feel the basic concept of FWD drag racing is flawed... No matter HOW much engineering you put into it, it'll always be slower due to the basic physics of drag racing.

FWD drag racing is becoming over-hyped, over-funded, and over-exposed. It's like a "feeder" or "beginner" series in drag racing, but it's not as CHEAP as a "feeder" or "beginner" series should be.

*not meant to be a reply to any specific person or post, just my feelings*

#40, "Looks to me like you comparing a 4 cylinder dragster that's damn near as fast as they get to a 6 second V8."

Amazing how you converted this "A 8cyl that can go 6sec 1/4" into this "fastest 8cyl in the world that only goes 6sec 1/4"

#41, {b}and everythin other than a 5000hp Top Fuel is insignificant? What abot pro Stock and Nitro Funny car? They don´t count?{/b}

Go back and reread post #32. Specifically the part where I said "I can understand why someone would publicize the fastest street legal car, the fastest funny car, etc., but what the hell is the point of having the fastest 4 cylinder?".

{b}And don´t even talk about them godawful-slow cripple 11sek-Slomaros, Rustangs, Roadstumblers... they are driven by a bunch of financially underpowered geeks who are unable to handle a REAL racecar, right?{/b}

Do you ever see those cars publicized as being the fastest car of their type? I don't.

#43, See, the whole point behind FWD drag isn't to make progress, its to make money. No matter how ridiculous it may seen, its making people money, and probably more money than I'm making.

#44, That's what you implied. You compared this car to a 6 second V8, but this 4 cylinder is tuned to a higher level than those 6 second V8s, thus they aren't comparable.

#47, I compared the amount of sponcership they would be recieving, not the speed or cost into them. So I can compare them. Profit margin is profit margin, whether it be a drag car or a McDonalds store. You can compare the profit margin.

#49, To hell with the money, that's not what I'm criticizing. I'm against the goofy commericalization of motorsports. I'm talking about the actual racing.

And considering this class still isn't a big as the V8 classes, I highly doubt sponsorship is bigger here.

#45, The fastest funny car, the fastest Pro-stock, top fuel, ´68 camaro... its just the same with the fastest 4cyl. I don´t see the difference. Everyone tries to use his skill in engineering and driving to achieve the best time within the given class limit. The fastest Pro Stock is as worthy as the fastest 4cyl FWD car because it is the summary of personal skill and knowledge.

FWD Dragracing may be overrated at the moment, but it may become a normality over time.

#51, The fastest funny car, the fastest Pro-stock, top fuel

And again, I can see why that's kept track of. Those are basically the top forms of drag racing. Well, except for ProStock, but I've never seen anyone claiming to have the fastest Pro Stock.

Again, it's skill and knowledge wasted. I see nothing impressive and investing the same amount of time and even more money just to run slow.

About drag racing, it was always, "As fast as I can afford"

If you had not that many bucks, you'd do a Street Stock, or a Super Stock drag car, or if you had a LOT of bucks, you would go Top Fuel... and midrange bucks would put you in something inbetween Super Stock and Top Fuel.

...but with FWD drag racing, you DON'T go as fast as you can afford, it's counter-intuitive.

In the long run, I don't see FWD drag racing as being a normality, I see as being a "NOVELTY" like the wheelie-dragsters of the late '60s (ones like "Little Red Wagon" and "Hemi Under Glass")

#53, I forget who said this, but it's an old Rice or Not quote, and it's classic: Saying a car is fast for a 4 cylinder is like saying Gary Coleman is tall for a midget.

#54, Agree with it being a novelty.
Hell, I'd do it if I knew I could make a bunch of money doing it.

#56, So very true. Thats why its the Fastest slow car around.
I'd be interested to see people take some of these FWD dragsters and try and race them backwards.
