Description:
Of all the "Merkur" pictures on Rice or Not, they are ALL XR4(I won't even say the rest as I don't want this showing up in the picture search for "Merkur XR4--"...)
Oh well, here's a Merkur Scorpio. |

I saw a clean black one for sale in an Auto Trader type publication recently for $1800, and I see this one is $1500. Why do they go for so cheap? |

#2, because they are foreign, and therefore crap and more expensive to work on. but in all reality, ive wondered the same thing, as most xr4's are pretty cheap as well. its a damn shame that merkur didnt do better than it did. it makes me sad inside to think of them as doing as poorly as they did with 2 really cool cars. people just werent ready for them then, and they still arent ready for them now. |

#3, Name recognition is also nil among most people, nobody knows what one is, much less is interrested in buying them. Problem was, that Merkur didn't have the capital to break into the US market on it's own, but rather, kinda like Renault in the same period, tried to inject itself into an already exsisting car line (Renault partnered w/ AMC, Merkur w/ lincoln/mercury) and it just didn't work |

Hah! Friend of mine has an XR4Ti and a Scorpio. nice little engine in the XR4Ti, but so much turbo lag. Scorpio was WAY ahead of its time during the 80s. black on black and any option you can get on todays Audis or MB. |

#8, Like air-conditioned seats? Distronic? Automatic Stability Control? I-Drive? Sat-nav? Traction control? Keyless entry and ignition? Xenon headlights? 7 Speed automatics? Wow, that's really advanced for an 80's car. |

#9, Now why the hell are you mentioning stability control and traction control? You don't really want a car with those shitty electronic gadgets that make you crash do you? I use a PC and I will NEVER trust my safety to a stupid computer. Take ABS for example. When the road is bumpy or is REALLY slippery you're in big trouble. The thing "thinks" that the wheels are constantly locking (and they are) and there is almost NO braking. Bown down to technology. I won't even mention times when locking up wheels is a good thing. Traction control cuts off power and stability control shifts your cornering line to what IT "thinks" is the best. Gimme a break.
