Either that, or she just has cash on hand. 445RWHP on an '03 Cobra would be what, an aftermarket exhaust?* :p
*no, seriously--those cars respond well to bolt ons. |

Maybe $2K worth of stuff total, all of it "bolt-on" except for maybe the clutch which would be a bit more of a hassle.

Of course, I'd not mind having >400 RWHP; I'd just rather not have that in a Cobra. :p |

#10, Ugly cosmetics, halfassed IRS, added weight, ungodly Roots-blown torque, silly quasi-luxury features in a car where half the dash panels still don't fit together right..
It's not worthwhile to attempt that level of power with a 3.8L; that's just silly (there are far better things you can do with your money). If I wanted 400 hp, I'd stick with some car with an 8.8" solid axle (huge suspension aftermarket) and use either a 302 or earlier Cobra engine, either in some ridiculous NA state of tune (if possible) or with a single poweradder (turbocharger or something else that can be driven "off-boost" at lower RPMs). |

Oh, and to counter the obvious argument that live-axle cars can't handle--yes, they can, they just suffer more road noise and stuff. An 8.8" live axle, a decent set of aftermarket lower control arms, torque arm, panhard bar, and you're just as well off as the Cobra, IMHO. Commentary about the superiority of an IRS is purely academic when the IRS is FORCED to fit on the EXACT SAME MOUNTING POINTS that the live axle uses.

#14, It's a 3-link with a panhard bar, if I recall correctly. Should handle better than the 4-link that the '79-04 cars used, because the axle has less side-to-side movement. |

400 NA hp out of a 302 = easy - well flywheel... could probably do a streetable 450 pretty easy - AFR heads, a good stout cam, and some high compression |

#16, That's pretty much my attitude. Especially with a good mass air/EFI setup--it's amazing what you can actually make streetable--my 3.8, for example, has a cam with about 40* more duration than stock, and plenty of lift, but aside from the fact that it sounds downright scary, it idles and drives really smoothly once it's warmed up. |

#18, I think I've previously expressed a preference for mostly mid-high RPM power, naturally aspirated where possible. :D |
